What is PENGU?
Pudgy Penguins (PENGU) is the official token of one of the best-known NFT brands, and it launched on Solana on 17 December 2024. It isn't a launchpad memecoin: the PENGU token comes from Igloo Inc., the company behind the cartoon penguin characters, led by chief executive Luca Netz. Outside crypto, it sells plush toys through Walmart and other US retailers.
About a quarter of the supply was set aside for the brand's community, including holders of the original penguin NFTs, Lil Pudgys and the soulbound Pudgy Rods, with other shares going to the company, a vesting team allocation, liquidity and other crypto communities. The claim window was planned to run for months but was cut short in early 2025, and unclaimed tokens were set to be burned. In October 2026 the US bank SoFi added the token to its trading app.
