What is BALANCE?

Balances (BALANCE) is an Ethereum token at the centre of an artwork by Jack Butcher, the artist behind Visualize Value. The project asks a single question, "Art or money?", and the token is the money half of the answer: whatever BALANCE a wallet holds is drawn as an artwork for that wallet, and the picture changes as the balance changes.

It comes out of a chain of earlier pieces. Credits are generated from real payments, any eighty credits can be burned into a Statement, and locking a Statement releases its points as BALANCE; the page then reads "withdrawn". The token contract was created on 19 October 2026 and trades on Uniswap on Ethereum. The project's exchange page, jack.art/exchange, lists the contract and links to a whitepaper.
